Mesothelioma cancer is usually found in people exposed to asbestos were among the who. Asbestos is a material that occurs naturally in the area changed. These are useful in some aspects, but also dangerous to a large extent. During mining and manufacture, mineral fibers that have attached to clothes or hair crowded out. Over time, breathing the asbestos workers and this can lead to the development Cancer.
The amount of the inhalation of asbestos causes cancer spread. This disease is also known as asbestos lung cancer. In times of exposure, only one or two months can result in mesothelioma. The fibers enter the lungs and progress rapidly. Slowly move toward the bottom of the lung and the system to infect. However, cancer occurs after 30-40 years after exposure to asbestos, because in this moment the> Asbestos diffuses and reacts in the body. In some cases it may also occur after 70 years.
The disease usually occurs in people who are over 40 years. However, over the years has only a few recorded cases of mesothelioma. Yet it is better for people exposed to asbestos, to take adequate precautions to prevent the occurrence of this disease.
A patient is first diagnosed with mesothelioma cancer notes. WithAn examination of the biopsy, the abnormal tissue placed under the microscope to detect the disease.
The disease spreads in the body step by step. How long before it is detected, the disease can be prevented mesothelioma. It 'usually the right or left side of the chest and covers the diaphragm with them sometimes. This is actually the phase 1 disease. In phase 2, the disease penetrates the chest wall. Sometimes it is the esophagus, heartor even the pleura on both sides. Phase 3, the mesothelioma cancer penetrates through the membrane and enters the abdominal cavity. The last phase spreads into the bloodstream and other organs.
You should know that most aoccurs mesothelioma in men than in women. Most types of mesothelioma cancer
My grandfather has been recently diagnosed with asbestos cancer. He has lost a significant amount of weight. He hardly eats anymore. My family is very worried. We went to his house for dinner today and he is literally wasting away. His doctors have given him different medication to try to get him to want to eat, but they all had negative side effects so they took him off of them. He is still not eating, so my family is trying to find something more natural that is a good appetite stimulant. (I already tried to convince him to smoke pot, but he won't)
Thank you so much for any advice!

The development of asbestos induced disease can vary depending on several critical factors. One interesting study that examines this issue is called, "Asbestos-induced phosphorylation of epidermal growth factor receptor is linked to c-fos and apoptosis" by Christine L. Zanella, Cynthia R. Timblin, Andrew Cummins, Michael Jung, Jonathan Goldberg, Rachel Raabe, Thomas R. Tritton, and Brooke T. Mossman - Am J Physiol Lung Cell Mol Physiol 277 - Vol. 277, Issue 4, L684-L693, October 1999. Here is an excerpt: "We examined the mechanisms of interaction of crocidolite asbestos fibers with the epidermal growth factor (EGF) receptor (EGFR) and the role of the EGFR-extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) signaling pathway in early-response protooncogene (c-fos/c-jun) expression and apoptosis induced by asbestos in rat pleural mesothelial (RPM) cells. Asbestos fibers, but not the nonfibrous analog riebeckite, abolished binding of EGF to the EGFR. This was not due to a direct interaction of fibers with ligand, inasmuch as binding studies using fibers and EGF in the absence of membranes showed that EGF did not adsorb to the surface of asbestos fibers. Exposure of RPM cells to asbestos caused a greater than twofold increase in steady-state message and protein levels of EGFR (P < 0.05).
The tyrphostin AG-1478, which inhibits the tyrosine kinase activity of the EGFR, but not the tyrphostin A-10, which does not affect EGFR activity, significantly ameliorated asbestos-induced increases in mRNA levels of c-fos but not of c-jun. Pretreatment of RPM cells with AG-1478 significantly reduced apoptosis in cells exposed to asbestos. Our findings suggest that asbestos-induced binding to EGFR initiates signaling pathways responsible for increased expression of the protooncogene c-fos and the development of apoptosis. The ability to block asbestos-induced elevations in c-fos mRNA levels and apoptosis by small-molecule inhibitors of EGFR phosphorylation may have therapeutic implications in asbestos-related diseases."
Another study is called, "Alveolar macrophage stimulation of lung fibroblast growth in asbestos-induced pulmonary fibrosis." By I. Lemaire, H. Beaudoin, S. MassA©, and C. Grondin - Am J Pathol. 1986 February; 122(2): 205-211. Here is an excerpt: "Abstract - Asbestotic lesions are characterized by macrophagic accumulation, fibroblast proliferation, and collagen deposition. To evaluate the potential involvement of alveolar macrophages in the subsequent fibrogenic reaction, the authors studied the effects of macrophages from normal and asbestos-treated rats upon lung fibroblast proliferation in vitro. Culture supernatants from bronchoalveolar (BAL) cells (99% macrophages) of normal rats stimulated lung fibroblast DNA synthesis and growth in a dose-dependent manner. Fibroblast growth factor (FGF) release by alveolar macrophages (AMs) was rapid (within 1 hour of incubation) and dependent on the number of AMs in culture. Moreover, culture supernatants from BAL cells of animals exposed to asbestos (single intratracheal injection) stimulated fibroblast proliferation to a greater degree than culture supernatants from BAL cells of control animals. Enhanced FGF production occurred 1 week after asbestos instillation and persisted up to 24 weeks.
This change was accompanied in the early stages (1-4 weeks) by an increase in the total number of BAL cells which returned to control values by 12 weeks. Differential analysis of BAL cell populations showed a transient infiltration of neutrophils in the bronchoalveolar compartment followed by a significant accumulation of macrophages which persisted up to 1 month. Furthermore, lungs of asbestos-treated animals showed evidence of pathologic alterations characterized by fibroblast proliferation and collagen deposition. This study demonstrates that increased production of fibroblast growth factor by alveolar macrophages in vitro coincides with the development of asbestos-induced fibrosis. Prolonged stimulation of FGF release may contribute to excessive fibroblast proliferation and fibrosis."
If you found any of these excerpts, please read them in their entirety. We all owe a debt of gratitude to these researchers.
Dear Doctor I am looking for help for my 51 yra old husband in March 2004 diagnosed with malignant pleura mesothelima. He had both epithelial and sarcoma cells. After long road for diagnosing/biopsys and patol.of effiusion fluid negatives/had open biopsy and was diagnosed.Went trough Alimta+Cisplatin and Folic Acid treatment-did not work.We foung dr Sugarbacer and try EEP surgery-was atempted but ended by sawing back since cells of mesothelioma were spread in wall chest muscles.Wenton clinical trial of drug AP23573 an mTor inhibitor-had 8 cycles of 75 mg.But CT scan showed progression of 3mm.Doctors not know if that chemiotherapy not work or did supressed growth of tumor. His tumor went trought wall chest because of one of the first biopsy and aditional tumor big and few small are growing on side trought ribs .He has constant pain.Taking long acting morfine 45mg and short 15 now he was given 300 mg neurontin. For the last few days have a lot of stomek pain also.Doctor ask either we want to continiue the trial or orher chemiotherapy or go on Hospis.I red about Celebrex for lung cancer and about Radiofrequency ablation to zap lung cancer. Will like to know if you know anything about that treatments or others that are promissing and where to go or how to treat the pain , Thank you fot your valuble time and voluntaring to help helpless souls

Mesothelioma defined
Many people ask this question, to which the answer is both simple and complex. The simple answer is that mesothelioma is a cancer of the mesothelium, the lining or membrane, around an organ, such as a lung, abdomen, or the heart. This mesothelium has specific names based upon the organ that it encases. The mesothelial lining around the lung is called the pleura, and has two layers that glide on a layer of fluid. The inner layer lines the lung tissue and the outer layer lines the chest wall. The fluid layer between the two lubricates the layers, allowing the lungs to expand and contract as the pleural layers can glide against each other without friction.
Lung cancer
Lung cancer involves the lung tissue and airways, which is contained entirely within the pleural lining and does not involve the pleura. Where other organs are involved the mesothelial lining has other names, such as peritoneum for the mesothelial lining of the peritoneum (abdominal cavity), and pericardium for the lining around the heart.
Mesothelioma causes
Mesothelioma is caused by inhaling asbestos fibers in most cases, which work their way through the softer lung tissue to the mesothelial lining (the pleura) and lodge in that membrane. It can take as much as 50 years for the fibers to cause symptoms of cancer, but some cases are diagnosable in as few as 10 or 20 years. Obviously, it's a slowly developing process, and one whose cause isn't always easy to identify due to the length of time between exposure and symptoms.
Mesothelioma exposure
Most people who develop mesothelioma were exposed to asbestos particles on-the-job, which they either inhaled or swallowed. Family members were exposed to the clothing, hair, or skin of workers who came home covered in fibers. Women who contacted these clothes, especially those who shook them out before washing them, or family members who greeted and hugged the worker before he had a chance to bathe were also exposed to the fibers.
In addition, community members were frequently exposed to fibers as dust from the mines, or processing plants that used asbestos released fibers into the air, which in turn could rain out on nearby communities.
Asbestos lung cancer
As rare as mesothelioma is, asbestos lung cancer is rarer, yet. If lung cancer results from pleural mesothelioma, it is usually because the cancer has metastasized and spread throughout the body. Asbestos lung cancer usually develops from fibers that lodged in the lining of the airways, bronchioles (small airways) or alveoli, the terminal sacs where oxygen enters the bloodstream. Asbestos fibers are massaged through the soft lung tissue and rarely lodge there. Instead, they lodge in the lining of the lungs where they remain causing a chronic irritation in the lining rather than the lung tissue itself. Those that lodge in the lung tissue usually become trapped by scar tissue and cause asbestosis, a restrictive fibrotic disease of the lungs.
The owners (the Port Authority) had previously been REFUSED permission to have the buildings demolished on the grounds of the resulting toxic dust that would cover NY, so surely plenty of people in authority in NY were aware of this situation? why didn't they evacuate the whole area for a few weeks?
there were 2,000 tons of asbestos in the WTC used as fire-retardant up to at least the 40th floors. asbestos was banned in 1971 & the owners were required to remove it.
just 7 days after 9/11, the EPA stated the air around ground zero was safe to breathe & yet workers were claiming they weren't feeling well whilst working there 6 weeks after 9/11.
360+ have died so far, 600 already have cancer now & a database exists of 71,000 names of those exposed.

Dri-fit - read it again, i said SIX WEEKS AFTER 9/11
Gekokujo - thanks for understanding the point! the EPA basically lied to people & rescue workers were not given the proper suits & breathing apparatus & now they're all dying - that's murder.
Freedom - you're quite right, the 'little' people don't count in their eyes
Are you saved from burning in hell by a coating of asbestos?
Someone said that someone they know worked for an asbestos removal team. That it was really dangerous work. Finally law makers passed legislation that people had to stop tearing them down because it was a greater health risk to the workers and people living in the immediate area to tear the building down , due to it is old, it breaks, and not in one piece, than it is to just leave them standing. All it takes is the smallest piece of asbestos in your lungs for you to develop serious lung and other illnesses.
What do you think, could they evacuate the buildings? I see people living in brand new buildings all the time that says "This building is known to the state of California to cause cancer" So the problems are that they are building more buildings with toxins, and/ or leaving dangerous buildings just standing, giving off fumes and maybe not evacuating them. Something seems wrong? What do you think?
Not just apartment buildings but, these signs are also in grocery stores, auto repair shops, the parking structures under malls and hospitals.

Mesothelioma cancer disease, asbestos-related materials. Asbestos fibers usually the body can penetrate into the mouth or on the skin, and then to the lungs and blood.
Mesothelioma cancer has shared documented successful the past 5-10 years, due to the fact that the symptoms of asbestos cancer can occur anywhere between 20-40 years. Mesothelioma cancer is difficult to diagnose because symptoms usually do not manifest themselves until the later degrees of the disease. Symptoms of lung cancer, mesothelioma shortness of breath, chest pain, fever and other complications such as pneumonia.
Asbestos cancer grows most frequently successful humans aged 50-70 years who were exposed to full levels of asbestos in the workplace. Asbestos has been used mainly successful manufacture, such as automobile and shipbuilding and the construction industry. The use of asbestos was only recently successful 1990.
Mesthelioma lung cancer was found that the most common form of mesothelioma cancer and develops in the lining of the lungs (pleura). Mesothelioma cancer can develop successful the abdominal (peritoneal) and around the heart (pericardial effusion). There is a high probability of malignancy successful asbestos-related abdominal cancer. For a more detailed explanation of mesothelioma cancer and asbestos trial.
Mesothelioma Lung cancer can be perceived by CT, which can sometimes diagnosed earlier than the other two types of mesothelioma cancer. Type of mesothelioma cancer treatment depends on the stage when cancer is diagnosed, the patient's age and personal preferences. Diseases can be divided into four different stages. Stages of a pathological process that is achieved is a method of mesothelioma treatment of cancer. in the first phase, when the tumor is limited to lining of the lungs, surgeons may try to surgically remove the tumor only. Once the tumor invasion into surrounding tissue papers at later stages, it is not curable.
Typically, in the later stages of mesothelioma cancer are treated or radiotherapy or chemotherapy. Radiation therapy uses high energy X-rays to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors chemotherapy, and on the other hand, uses drugs to destroy cancer cells. The purpose of this procedure mesothelioma cancer prolong the life of the patient, because the disease is not treated at later stages.
in addition to the conventional treatments of cancer mesothelioma, there are several experimental procedures successful the investigation, which may give new hope.
Immunotherapy: This form of therapy used for biological treatment of cancer mesothelioma, the patient's own immune system attack cancer cells. Clinical studies have shown that the immune system is able to distinguish healthy cells from tumor cells, and therefore can be used to destroy cancer cells.
Gene Therapy: This form of mesothelioma cancer treatment is very much still successful development. The process consists of a gene is injected directly into the tumor. This gene makes cancer cells more sensitive to the antiviral drug glanciclovir in normal conditions is not effective against these cells. Glanciclovir can then destroy all the cancer cells without harming healthy cells tissue papers.
Drug therapy: drug Alimta, the only drug for chemotherapy Food and Drug (FDA) approved the use successful the treatment of patients with malignant tumors of the lung mesothelioma. This new and exciting product has been shown in clinical studies to decrease symptoms and duration of life of patients.
Photodynamic Therapy: Photodynamic therapy involves the use of light to destroy cancer cells. The first patient was originally administered photosensitizing drugs only collects successful cancerous cells. Fiber-optic cables and then inclosed into the body successful order to focus light of a certain frequency of the tumor. The light excites photosensitizing drug for the destruction of toxic oxygen molecules that cancer cells.
These experimental mesothelioma treatment of cancer, although still under development, offering prospects of cancer patients better and longer. Because it is likely to increase the number of people with asbestos-related cancer, further research into other forms of mesothelioma are diagnosed with cancer is vital.
Mesothelioma is a very rare form of malignant disease that occurs because of exposed asbestos particles. Hazardous asbestos contained successful many products for the construction of houses, buildings and schools. If you intend to reside, or plan on working with ceiling tiles, floor tiles, acoustic or decorative wall or ceiling, the other possible sites that may contain asbestos, it is important to know about asbestos and lung cancer, prior to the overhaul of overburden operations.
For over 100 years, asbestos and lung cancer is a dangerous partner. Most people who contracted mesothelioma jobs, where they were exposed and had inhaled asbestos dust. Mesothelioma is a cancer that can be gentle or malignant. This mesothelial tissue, which should be fine for most of the protective tissue of the inner organs of the body. Cause found malignant mesothelioma is the result of exposure to floating and inhalation of asbestos particles successful the air.
Mesothelioma, lung cancer and asbestosis, a chronic advanced lung diseases other than cancer may cause inhalation of asbestos fibers or dust on the long term. Despite the fact that asbestos and lung cancer have a clear relationship for many years, were fresh cases of asbestos-caused cancer are diagnosed every year continues.
Asbestos is successful the main in the manufacturing, mining, milling, use or removal of asbestos-containing materials. Despite the fact that asbestos is banned many years ago, it still seems to be successful production, which was adopted prior to the ban were made. Opportunities for developing a progressive lung disease, lung cancer and malignant mesothelioma is associated with a lifetime of exposure to asbestos dust.
Asbestos is a group of by nature occurring minerals that are resistant to fire and chemicals. They fibrous mineral forms of impure magnesium silicate and is in fire of materials, electrical insulation, cement, tiles, acoustical and decorative caps and other building materials. will be available for the repair, removal or asbestos-containing materials, the tiny asbestos dust in the air. As soon as the air, they will be inhaled into the lung tissue, resulting in mesothelioma, lung cancer and progressive disease of the lungs.
Cancer of the mesothelial tissue as a result of irregular tissue cells divide out of control. Cancer cells can metastasize, which means they will invade the tissue papers, which are close to the field of cancer and spread through the lymphatic system and blood flow in different parts of the body. Mesothelial tumors usually mesothelial tissue papers of the thorax and peritoneum grow. The pleura is a thin membrane for each lung and folds to create lining the chest cavity. The peritoneum is the tissue on the walls of the abdominal cavity, including the soft internal organs. Primary mesothelial tumors, cancer of the tissue papers around the heart are rare.
Mesothelioma related to asbestos exposure is almost always fatal within 2-4 years from the date of his diagnosis. National Cancer Institute sponsors of medical research in the hope that one day they will be treated or cause at to the lowest degree a new and better treatments.
You must accept or print any asbestos-containing intersections that you may encounter. The cost of asbestos removal is calm, you realize that you are not breathing hazardous minerals.
If you are diagnosed with cancer to asbestos also known as mesothelioma, can you go to and receive a free packet of information about specific therapies designed to accommodate a specific diagnosis. The software package also includes well-known doctors and mesothelioma cancer rates throughout the country, as well as several options for financial support, which may help successful therapy costs.
