We are looking at buying a house. There is no asbestos written in the disclosure, but the siding is some sort of cement board material. It looks very new with little signs of aging. The house was built in the 20's or 30's. Is it possible that it contains asbestos?

In a New York Times article Dealing Safely With Asbestos, 9/10/08, the EPA spokesman and others recommend covering floors containing asbestos with new wood floors or carpeting rather than removing the tiles. However this does not release the home owner from having to include asbestos on the "dangerous materials" disclosure list which makes it practicaly impossible to sell the property. Is there any way to overcome this problem? Jackie

I was vacuuming asbestos with a shop vac, all the rocks and debris from a pipe were breaking up and cause my vac to expel the dust into the air. I was in the basement for about 3 hrs breathing it in. Can I get sick from this?

I live in NY if that helps. My landlord left notices on all of our doors saying that they will be removing asbestos from the basements of our townhouses. If this problem was known prior to my occupancy of the townhouse, was the landlord required to disclose this information?

There are two walls, maybe three, that i would like to take down but i have a feeling that they walls have asbestos. I have not had the walls tested but i am almost sure they do since the house was built around 1920. The walls are about 15x8. Does anyone know the cost per square foot? Two are none bearing and one is (i do not know if i am taking down the bearing wall).
Correct, i do understand that asbestos is dangerous only when it is airborne, but the kitchen is so small that i would like to combine it with the dining room.
From what i have read most houses built before the 1950's had asbestos in them. Articles i have read say plaster walls are know to have asbestos, so i am figuring that there is asbestos in the plaster walls (worst case scenario). I want to know an amount to see if it is actually worth doing what i want to do. If its to expensive then i don't even want to test the walls. Let me know

I think my ugly siding has asbestos in it. It is like a fake shingle siding, probably from the 50's when the house was built. It is in good shape but not attractive. The color is the main thing we don't like. Option 1 is to just paint over it, but that is just a temporary fix since the siding itself is ugly. Can someone just put siding over it? I think this will be expensive!
