My contractor told me, inorder for the County to give as the permit for demolition for my second floor addition to my house, we need to removed the vinyl tile floor in my basement (15 x 20 area), because it's contaminated with asbestos. My contractor will do it by himself and will put everything in a double bag and will hire a disposal co. to disposed it. How safe are we in staying in the house after they removed it? We will be staying in the house for another 1-2 Months before they do the actual construction.

I'm scheduled to take my Asbestos Supervisor course in New York in July. This is my 2nd time taking the course because the first one expired. However, I ultimately would like to work in Pennsylvania. Would I need a separate Asbestos license to work in PA? What about New Jersey?

Was amosite ever used, or only chrysotile? I heard that 95 percent of all asbestos used in building materials before the 80's was chrysotile.

My dad is thinking of buying an old house. In the basement, there is some sort of covering around the pipes that *might* contain asbestos. The real estate agent says the owners will be removing it. How long after this removal will it be safe to move in and live in this house?
Sorry, I should have clarified. A removal team will be coming in to do it.

We just bought our first home and it has the old popcorn ceilings. I have heard that if the house was built prior to the mid seventies, then it might be asbestos. This house was 1979, so I think we would be safe. Is there any way to find out that won't cost a lot of money, like a kit or a test?

I want to know how long it would take for asbestos to break down naturally - as in not heated. Or how many years before it becomes weak.

the home inspector said the insulation is vermiculite, which may (or may not) have asbestos in it. He said it would be fine to just seal off the attic. Is that ok? Removal would cost about ,000 but I don't want to jeopardize our future health.
