I sleep close to the ceiling of my wall, due to my loft bed. I'm not sure if I'm sleeping close to asbestos, and I frequently hit the wall on accident. It could be nothing, but I'm concerned to know if I'm really placing a dangerous bet with what's above me or it's merely nothing dangerous.
It looks similiar to this?

Other than getting cancer, what would be a good way of finding out?
Built in the late 70's.
That’s a popcorn ceiling: it’s made of gypsum and is harmless (I’ve installed it).
There are no such things as "asbestos walls". Only things asbestos in buildings is really old insulation and a type of tile used as an exterior siding (both pre-1970′s) .
from looking at that picture that reminds me of what is called a blown ceiling. as far as asbestos goes if the home is fairly new i would not worry about it. if the home is over 30 yrs old then i would contact your local health dept (not 100% sure) to see if there is a test that can be done.contacting the local health dept may not be the right answer but im sure they could lead you to the right place.
How old is your building? Most newer buildings have had abestos abatement done.
Your could ask your landlord.
If you own the building, you’ll have to bring in an expert.
well, as far as my knolegde goes… if your worried about it dont, asbestos isn’t as bad as you think, i.e. many water pipes are made out of the crap and that’s normal. but if your still convinced that your going to die from your celing, and if the room is small, then replacing it is always an option (if you know how to do drywall) shouldn’t cost more than 50 bucks. it’s not hard either just cut and nail it in.
however the picture, all i see is "texture" or basically a stuff that is similar to plaster of pairs.
anyway if i was in your position i would have someone look at it, because then you know for sure it is or isnot asbestos, and can put your mind at ease or to sleep in this case. (actually i wouldn’t care. but that’s another question to answer)
