I dry-scraped about 200 vinyl-asbestos tiles without protection.

I'm really scared right now because of this. The worst part is that I won't know till 10-40 years from now if I will get cancer or anything.

I know now that I've been exposed to asbestos, I cannot get rid of it and my risk of getting disease or cancer has increased. I'm reaaaallllyyyy scared right now.

I really hope it's not as bad as I think

It’s really not as bad as you think. You were exposed once, some people were exposed for a lifetime and still didn’t get cancer. I think people tend to be overly afraid of things like this that got so much media attention. We were, after all, using asbestos as a construction material for a long time before we even knew of its dangers. I think prolonged exposure is the real culprit.

Do you mean you scraped paint off of the tiles? I’d be more concerned about the potential for lead in the paint. If you didn’t cut the asbestos, its ok.

Don’t worry. I was exposed to asbestos too and did some research. It turns out that it’s only a risk if you had lots of exposure over a long period of time (like if you installed asbestos all day long every day for like 10 years). And it’s not a carcinogen in the way other things are. It causes cancer by damaging your lungs.

And in general don’t worry so much about cancer. People only die when God wants them too, if not by cancer then by something else maybe worse than cancer.
