My boyfriend and I just purchased a house. It's about 40 years old but in good condition. We noticed that the garage roof is made of asbestos and we're wondering if we should worry about asbestos in the walls of the house because my boyfriend is a plumber and is going to re-pipe the house. We are also knocking down one of the walls to make our bathroom bigger and I am just worrying that the dust could be dangerous. Help!
I doubt there would be asbestos in the wall but it may be present in old pipe lagging etc it should have been mentioned in the surveyors report when you purchased the house.Because your boyfriend is a plumber he will be fully aware of the risks of asbestos and will take the appropriate action if he finds any
Asbestos has always been a big deal and always will be. You should of checked this out before you bought the house. There could be real major issues, because it is so old. The dust could be very dangerous. Have a County official come out and make sure it is not going to be harmful. Always be safer than sorry.
