My sister has been hooked on crack for 10 years. I am raising her son. She is 30 and has never had a job or been responsible for anything in her life. When my mom died a few years ago, her will said that whatever money my sister received from her life insurance should be held in my trust. That money has run out and now my sister is receiving settlement money from the lawsuit over my mom's death. (mesothelioma) This money legally doesn't have to be held in my trust. It could go straight to my sister but she agreed that because of her drug issue, my brother and I could hold on to it for her so she doesn't go blow it. There is about 75 thousand dollars total. Well, a year has passed and my brother and I are fed up being responsible for this money. She is constantly calling asking for more money, even though we agreed on a set budget. Obviously she is going and blowing this money on crack. We don't usually tell her no because legally, it is her money to do with what she wants. But we are so sick of the lies and deceit and the constant calls. And we are scared that drug dealers will show up at our house because she has told them we have all this money for her but won't give it to her.
If this were your sibling, or your adult child, would you just give them the whole 75 thousand and let them go blow it on crack?. Even though you know there is a good likelihood it would cause her to overdose and die? Or would you just keep answering the phone calls and give it to her a little bit at a time so she will be less likely to be able to go on a massive binge that will kill her?
My brother and I are so sick of all of this but at the same time, we don't want to live with the guilt of knowing that she died because we gave her all that money at once.
And she absolutely refuses long term rehab. She went a couple of times to 30 day programs, but she left to smoke crack within a week of getting out.
Is there anyway to get legal control of her money because of her addiction?
Thanks for your help.

Ok well a friend of mine is going through a lawsuit about some asbestos where he formerly worked. It was a paper mill that was around his family and most of his family and friends worked there(The mill closed down like in the early 90s). A lawyer approached him and his family/friends telling them that they had a case. So they went ahead and sued and for over 10 years the case has been in the process. Now the case is supposedly settled. He called the lawyer and the lawyer says its supposed to be millions but he doesn't know the exact amount. Some people in his family have died from brain damage, cancer, etc. which we don't know if its asbestos related it could have been. The lawyer says you only get money if you have some kind of birth defect but you don't get money for the brother/sister, mother/father that you lost that was possibly from the asbestos in the mill. Do you think this case is fishy? I think its strange that they don't know how much money him and his family are getting....
I KNOW THIS IS P &S ALL THE OTHER SECTIONS ARE EMPTY!...Also the case was held in Texas and we're in Louisiana so all the court dates or whatever were never attended by him or his family/friends only by the lawyer. So no one knows what went on in the court room. His family trusts the lawyer with everything! They think that he's going to do everything honestly but I was trying to tell them that lawyers are crooks and you can't trust them to handle everything for you. Next week the family is supposed to sign to close the case and he still doesn't know how much each family will receive. He says after they sign next week the checks will be sent out in the upcoming weeks. Plus there are some people in my friends family that weren't on the list anymore because they didn't have a birth defect...I think this is very fishy. Please tell me what do you think I should tell him to do because he feels that its stranger too. Thanks a million! ANYTHING would help me...I know this is long! =] x

I have recently found that my family was exposed to vermiculite, a material containing asbestos, in my childhood home. During my childhood my father remodeled our home several times. What is our risk of developing asbestos related diseases? (I am having trouble finding true cancer rates and information in google searches.)
No one in my family is showing abnormalities 10+ years after moving out.

Hi. I was exposed to asbestos, silica and hydrofluoric acid fumes on the job for 10 years (20 yrs ago). In 05 I went into respiratory failure. An open lung biopsy turned up pleural Atypical Mesothelial Hyperplasia. The pulmonologists say it is asbestos related but it won't go any further. The brave people I've talked to who are dealing with mesothelioma say they had Atypical Mesothelial Hyperplasia at one time.
Anyone know the stages of Mesothelioma?? thanks

My late husband was SO exposed to asbestos; but died from what was called untreatable Hodgkin's. I don't believe that and 10 years later, still looking for answers.
