Removed Asbestos Containing Floor Tile – Scared?

An aunt passed, an offer was made that would allow us to live in her house and take over ownership so we began renovations. We are currently not in the best financial situation so we decided to do the brunt of the work ourselves. We removed old (25+ years) deteriorating carpet and found beneath it many broken floor tiles and green soft rotted wood below. We decided we needed to replace the rotted board, but there was tile on top. What to do? What to do? "REMOVE IT!" We thought. So we pried up all the tile with putty knives. After wards we decided to look online for directions on removing the adhesive from the floorboards and lo and behold on one website there's a picture of our EXACT tile. Contains asbestos it says. So I was struck near panic and even though that was a month ago it still wells up now and then. We weren't living in the house, still have our apartment, and just went on the weekends to work on it but I think all and all we have had about 17-20 hours exposure to whatever we kicked up in the air with the tile. Whatever dust there was I cleaned up almost immediately because I have allergies. We wore no face masks, no protective clothing, nothing - as I was completely unaware that asbestos floor tile even existed (yes I'm an idiot). I've found a few similar posts of people freaking out about unintended asbestos exposure via removing old tile, and my one and only friend in the world apparently did the same damn thing so I'm not the only idiot in the world that may have set myself on the path to mesothelioma, but like the title says, I'm frightened. We had the tile tested and it came back 93% Vinyl, 7% asbestos and the adhesive somehow has no asbestos at all. I know what's done is done and there's nothing I can do now, but how worried would you be?

Asbestos in old apartment?

When I rented an apartment recently, the landlord made me sign a doc that said, "The apartment may contain asbestos."

If there IS asbestos in the unit, how much danger are we in? She said she has painted the walls several times over the years.

I don't want lung cancer 5 years from now!!
Oh, she said it may also be on the ceiling.
I'd say it was built before the 1970s.

Am I gonna die from hitting an asbestos ceiling with a tv antenna?

The other day I was trying to extend an antenna and was holding it when the tip accidentally hit my popcorn ceiling. This ceiling has asbestos. It was built in the early 70's and asbestos was used as a fire retardant. Now I'm scared to death that I'm gonna die from cancer or something. I know risk comes to miners and shipyard workers, but is it possible I could get cancer from just barely touching it and having the fibers released? It has to have happened before, hasn't it? I mean am I the only one in my whole apartment complex (200 apartments or so) that has touched the ceiling by accident? Am I doomed? PLEASE HELP! I'm really scared and appreciate any answers. Thanks guys

when did they start using asbestos inside homes or insulation?

i asked on yahoo answers for people to guess the age of my apartment, the average answer is 1920's - 1930's or maybe slightly older. I wanted to know when they started using asbestos in homes for any reason (insulation probably), because my landlord wants to replace the ceiling, and he really doesn't think about these things before he starts hacking away.

What can I do about apartment complex illegally removing asbestos?

My apartment complex removed asbestos from the hall outside of my apartment without even telling us that they were doing this.
The hall is very long and there's about 20 doors in the hall leading into apartments.
When they were removing the asbestos everybody living here had to breath it and the dust from it also got into where we are living every time we opened our door.
Can I sue them for this?
They are saying that it wasn't asbestos but when we first moved in they told us about the asbestos and said not to disturb it and to leave it alone and now they are saying it wasn't asbestos but just regular paint.
Who can I notify about this and how can I prove it was asbestos they removed if they are saying it wasn't?
People here have babies and small children all of whom had to breath this cancer causing chemical.
Any help concerning this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Can very brief asbestos exposures cause cancer?

I think that I might have inadvertently exposed myself to asbestos. What happened is that I was going to put in some ceiling hooks which required drilling a small hole in the ceiling. In order to make sure that I wasn't getting close to any electrical wiring I proceeded to look up into the unfinished attic. Upon lifting the small cover that allows access to the space, I discovered a mid to dark gray fluffy insulation that was underneath the blown in fiberglass insulation. At this point, I backed away and did not proceed to crawl around in the attic, however, this stuff (it MIGHT be rockwool, not for sure though) was all around thecover so I know that I definitely stirred it up. If it helps, my apartment was built between 1968 through 1974. I've told some people about this and they tell me that they highly doubt that loose fill asbestos was used. What do you guys think or know?

Can I install carpet over exposed asbestos adhesive?

My cousin recently asked me to renovate an apartment for her. Unfortunately, her husband began removing the linoleum with a floor scraper before he was informed that the underlying adhesive had asbestos in it. All the tile is gone now and most of the adhesive has already been stripped away, but there's still quite a bit that's exposed and half scraped away. What should I do? Do I need to pay the loads for a professional to come in and finish the job or can I just lay carpet over all this asbestos?
