please help! and thank u if u do!

I am moving into a house that has a bedroom with an old, glued-down linoleum floor. Is it safer to put in a nailed-down real wood floor over the linoleum floor or a floating laminate floor? I am concerned about releasing asbestos fibers (although I didn’t get lab results back as yet…I’m having the tar tested for asbestos).

I’ve heard that most homes built between the years 1930 and 1970 were built with products that contain asbestos. I’m looking to purchase a cheap manufactured home, or pretty much anything I can find that is small and low-priced to fix up a little and live in during my college years. If I happened to find one of these older homes, would staying in it for a year or two put my significant other and I at risk for cancer? Or is it only dangerous if you inhale the asbestos fibers? I’m confused as to whether or not if it’s a danger for us to be living in a place where movement(walking around, playing music) can shake loose pieces of asbestos fiber from the cieling and/or walls…or is that just silly? Please enlighten me, someone. It would be greatly appreciated.

I live in an upstairs apartment. However, downstairs 3 apartments contain asbestos tile. So, the professionals come in to remove the asbestos. They used some kind of solvent to glue the asbestos together so that when they remove the asbestos the asbestos fibers wouldn’t fly all over the air. I would really want to know what kind of solvent they are using and if the solvent they used are toxic or not because we have been smelling it for a week now. It smelled bitter and smelled like gas too. It makes our food taste bitter. And also, will the asbestos fibers get into the upstairs apartment. Should we be concerned about these things?

Asbestos safety?

Hey i am planning on going into the Northampton State Hospital in Massachusetts soon to take pictures, but they have signs around and on the buildings saying Asbestos, cancer, and lung disease. I am only going in for about an hour, but I don’t want to get contaminated. What would be the proper face-mask to wear? I was thinking about those ones the doctors use or the paper ones you can buy from home depot. Are these safe? I’d rather not go and buy a face mask.

Thanks
Thanks for the tip, I didnt think that amount of time would be bad… The place isn’t being worked on, it’s just sitting there empty so the asbestos fibers shouldn’t be disrupted.

How does asbestos causes mesothelioma?

I work in an automotive shop as a tire technician part time to put myself through school. How much risk do I face for developing a lung disorder? I don’t personally service brakes; I only replace tires. This does expose me to some dust when I remove the wheel from the car or truck, although I try to avoid breathing it in.

Also, are macrophages and other leukocytes unable to carry out phagocytosis on asbestos fibers?

We want to make sure we seal in any of the remaining asbestos dust – but we’d also like it to be a water proofer so we can glue down hardwood floor a few weeks later. We’re getting the masks, and we’re putting plastic in the doorways and making sure we’re safe while removing it – we just want to be prepared w/ the right kind of sealer and I’m not sure what kind to get. Brand names anyone?
we have not removed the asbestos yet.. we’re planning the job before we start! We’d like the sealer to lock in the remaining asbestos fibers and also water proof the concrete for hardwood flooring glue down installation afterwards. we are in the humid south!
