My dad is 49 and has mesothelioma in his abdomen. He just got surgery to remove the tumors and started his first treatment of chemo during surgery. What should I expect and what can I do to support/take care of him?

I recently moved into an older home. the upstairs was finished, with tile flooring. They were coming loose in many spots, so i put on a dust mask and removed them all. After my parents came over, my dad told me they were probably asbestos tile (9x9 inch). I disposed of them properly, but am wondering if i am going to get lung cancer from this in 10 or 20 years?

I have never before been exposed to asbestos in any way (automotive, school or another house)

i wore the mask, but not after i removed all the tile. I was told the dust remains in the air for days, and i was up there 7 days with out a mask after cleaning the tile, while vacuuming and cleaning the walls and what not.

My dad is thinking of buying an old house. In the basement, there is some sort of covering around the pipes that *might* contain asbestos. The real estate agent says the owners will be removing it. How long after this removal will it be safe to move in and live in this house?
Sorry, I should have clarified. A removal team will be coming in to do it.

About five years ago my dad was doing up the garden and their were asbestos sheets at the back of the garden and my dad asked me if I would help him moves the asbestos sheets (my dad didn't know that they were asbestos sheets, the previous owners left them there, and I was 14 at the time I'm now 19) When we were moving them 3 of the asbestos sheets broke into pieces, I want to find out if I was exposed to alot of asbestos, enouf to give me cancer?????does it help that they broke outside

ok i lived in a 100yr old house about 5 yrs ago,i was 10 when i finally left but aparntley my dad had taken a piece of a wall down in a hall way when i was little and i remember him doing it but i dont think he was wearing a mask and i dunno if i was exposed to the airbone particalls from the asbestos,if i had been would i be noticing any type of effects or problems how do i know if i have cancer from it?

The connection between asbestos and respiratory diseases is known but is there a connection to other diseases? My dad worked in a shipyard for forty years. His company violated OSHA guidelines for decades. Daddy developed asbestosis and emphysema. Wives of shipyard workers have above average rates of cancer. Mom had cervical cancer and non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Is there a connection?
